TomTom Launches iPhone App for Dutch Taxi Service
TomTom today released an iPhone app to complement its taxi booking service launched last year (read here) in the Netherlands after the acquisition by TomTom of the start-up TXXI. Its Android equivalent is set to be released “soon“.

This free app allows to book a taxi and receive information about the driver, the taxi and the estimated time of arrival. The users can also see the quickest route to destination, including possible traffic bottlenecks. After the ride the user can rate the driver and add it as a preferred option for future rides.

The application offers full coverage in Amsterdam and Rotterdam and limited coverage in Delft, Eindhoven, Haarlem, Hilversum, and Leiden.
At this stage the solution does not include a payment mechanism, only booking. Taxi drivers that want to be part of the network shall buy a dedicated, connected navigation system that costs €180 and venues (hotels, restaurants, etc.) can buy a “Taxi Butler“ device to call a cab at the press of a button (€47).
