Qualcomm Ships Vision-Based Augmented Reality SDK
Qualcomm today released an augmented reality Software Development Kit (SDK) for the Android platform. The free SDK uses computer vision technology to align graphics tightly with underlying objects. Qualcomm expects from developers 3D gaming experiences on tabletops and interactive media experiences on product packaging and promotional items.

Qualcomm said that toy maker Mattel, Inc., was among the first consumer products companies to embrace its AR platform.

The Qualcomm AR SDK is available immediately as a beta release and can be downloaded at developer.qualcomm.com/ar.

With this announcement Qualcomm joined the ranks of augmented reality pure players such as Metaio, Layar, Total Immersion and a few others.
