NIM debuts iPhone nav App
Mobile navigation software provider NIM announced yesterday the availability of its Gokivo application on the Apple App Store. Gokivo integrates Yahoo! Local for local search and cost $0.99 plus a $9.99 monthly fee. Gokivo is an off-board navigation client based on the white label navigation solution offered by NIM to wireless operators such as Verizon Wireless (VZ Navigator).

Interestingly, NIM has integrated iPod control into its application, a recent feature offered by the iPhone 3.0 operating system. The benefit is that it permits – despite the fact the iPhone is normally not multitasking between applications – to have both music and navigation at the same time (the music automatically fading or pausing for voice prompts) a feature that iPhone owners are likely to find very compelling.

With Gokivo NIM is initiating a wave of navigation applications on the App store. TomTom and Navigon have already announced their plans – although their pricing is unkown at this stage - while other companies such as Nav N Go, Sygic, ALK, TeleNav, Telmap are likely to offer their own turn-by-turn navigation app in the coming weeks or months.
