Microsoft renew contract with InfoUSA for local content
US business listing provider infoGroup has signed a license renewal agreement with Microsoft. Under the terms of this contract infoUSA premium local search content will be used in Bing, Microsoft Corp.’s new decision engine.

Content will surface as part of Bing Local and Bing 411 (1-800-BING-411), Microsoft’s free service for local search. Microsoft has included infoUSA content in its local search application since 2002.

“infoUSA is excited to provide critical merchant data to Bing, for the best user experience,” said Jim DeRouchey, President, infoUSA Licensing. “infoUSA is consistently chosen by the top tier search engines due to its superior compilation, verification and quality assurance processes that produce the best data for search applications.”

infoUSA verifies up to 120,000 records per day over the phone. The economic downturn has been giving the company some more work to clear closed retail shops in its database. InfoUSA set up a special monitoring process for chains like Circuit City, Mervyn’s, Wilson Leather etc.. As a result of this special monitoring over 12,000 store locations have been removed from the database since Jan 2009, said the company.
