infoUSA Licensing, a division of infoGROUP (NASDAQ: IUSA), yesterday announced a partnership with GeoSpot to enhance POI listing granularity. Additional data such as services, brands, facilities, descriptions, hours of operation and specialty characteristics provided by GeoSpot, enrich the content of the POI listings provided by infoUSA.

GeoSpot, which launched its service early 2008 (read more here907), provides business characteristics not typically available in current Location Based Services (LBS) applications, including if the business is green-certified, handicap accessible, has onsite facilities or is kid-friendly. Even more interesting, GeoSpot collects dynamic information such as the hours of operation which constitutes a very interesting filter for a local search.

This enhanced content can be linked to the corresponding infoUSA telephone verified business data which includes company name, phone number, address and business category (SIC Codes). By using infoUSA’s unique ID Numbers, search and navigation partners can sync the additional details to infoUSA’s POI data in a simple and succinct process.

“GeoSpot’s comprehensive suite of enhanced data will enable our local search and navigation customers to have access to the essential information consumers are searching for,” said Jim DeRouchey, President, infoUSA Licensing. “The ease of implementation of the data makes it simple for our LBS partners to incorporate the additional content into their applications,” he added.

This partnership is a real success for GeoSpot, it will give them a commercial access to many LBS and navigation providers which are already purchasing infoUSA’s POI listings.
