News from investment bank Jefferies indicates SiRF SirfStarIII LP chipset will power the new nüvi 200 series, despite previous rumors that Garmin might use internal solution or Taiwanese company MediaTek for its entry level product range. Although TomTom decided earlier this year to use Global Locate as a supplier for its entry level TomTom One (best selling PND worldwide), SiRF is likely to maintain a large market share on the PND market, as these new nüvi products, targeting price conscious customers, might become quickly best sellers in this category in Europe and in the US.

In the US the nüvi 200, nüvi 250 and nüvi 270 are expected to be available in April at an MSRP of $399.99, $499.99 and $599.99. In Europe, they are expected to be available in May at a suggested retail price of €249, €299 and €449.
