Foursquare Gets $35 million in a Series D Funding

Foursquare CEO Dennis Crowley announced earlier this week that his company raised $35 million in a Series D funding round. DFJ Growth and Capital Group (via their SMALLCAP World Fund) have been the investors in this round.

Last April Foursquare already raised $41 million in loan and convertible debt (read more here).

According to Crowley Foursquare nowadays has 45 million people in its community, and is powered by over 40 million tips collected at 70 million venues and 5 billion check-ins.

DFJ Growth commented their investment with a blog post: “We are picky and patient investors at DFJ Growth and have closely tracked Dennis and his team’s progress in 2013, and it was a very impressive year. The latest product releases deliver passive geo information - no need to check in - and the community has now posted over 40M tips at more than 70M venues worldwide. The company also validated its business model with an innovative portfolio of ad and promotional tools that are a win-win: useful and valuable to the member and great results for the advertiser.“
