Wavemarket and Vivo launches first family location service in Latin America

Vivo, the largest mobile operator in Brazil (30 million customers), and WaveMarket, a provider of mobile family location services, launched Vivo Localiza Familia today, the first family location service in Latin America. WaveMarket's family location technology already powers the Sprint Family Locator in the US and Bell Mobility's Seek and Find service in Canada. With the Vivo launch, a BREW Family Location deployment, WaveMarket added many new features including location-based "Alerts," which automatically notify parents whenever a child enters or leaves a designated area like school or home. Parents can locate children, manage permissions, and receive alerts on the web or on an application on the mobile phone.

WaveMarket has pioneered the first carrier-grade family location service. The company's software product suite includes solutions that range from family finder services to mobile social networking. Marketing to mobile carriers in the United States, Europe and Asia, WaveMarket's customers include top tier carriers Sprint Nextel, Cingular, Bell Mobility of Canada, and SK Telecom, Korea's leading wireless carrier and Vivo, Brazil's largest operator. Headquartered in Emeryville, CA, WaveMarket also has international offices in Brazil and Canada. Founded in 2000, the company is financed by a group that includes Draper Fisher Jurvetson, QUALCOMM Ventures, BlueRun Ventures (formerly Nokia Venture Partners), Intel Capital, and Mitsui Ventures.
