CSR offers a Wi-Fi chipset and a Bluetooth/FM/software GPS chipset as well as its own eGPS software that reads cell tower signal to augment the GPS positioning. This collaboration with Skyhook will enable the Cambridge (UK) company to add another signal layer to improve location availability and accuracy.
Additionally, CSR is a relatively new player in the Wi-Fi chipset game, therefore adding a differentiator such as WPS is even more important.
“We are working closely with CSR in integrating techniques, tuning our WPS engine to their chipsets”, said Ted Morgan, CEO at Skyhook Wireless. No date of availability of a combined solution has been disclosed at this stage.
