The AllSport GPS, Geocache Navigator and Trimble Outdoors applications from the Trimble Outdoors family of GPS-on-cellular products and services provide BlackBerry smartphone users with a choice of off-road GPS solutions.
"BlackBerry smartphone users now have a complete catalog of GPS-based applications available to enhance their active lifestyle," said Larry Fox, business development director at Trimble Outdoors. "Three distinct services are now available on the BlackBerry 8800, BlackBerry 8820 and BlackBerry Curve 8310 that support a broad range of outdoor activities, practically anytime and anywhere. From the business user to the consumer, Trimble provides the ultimate choice of lifestyle applications for casual recreation all the way through extreme outdoor adventures."
"Yet another reason to love your BlackBerry: With the suite of applications from Trimble Outdoors, you can now use the smartphone as a full-fledged GPS device anywhere in the world," said Jonathan Dorn, editor-in-chief, BACKPACKER Magazine. "Whether you want to go geocaching in San Francisco, a wilderness navigation program in the wilds of Montana, or need a fitness-based map tool for tracking a run from your hotel in Berlin, this handheld does it all. As a longtime GPS user, I'm amazed at how fast my new BlackBerry acquires satellites, how quickly it calculates results, and how versatile the tools are. In minutes, I can download a map and waypoints to plan for a hike -- or I can save my route and upload it to my computer in seconds to share with a community of thousands of like-minded outdoor enthusiasts. Want proof? Check out the digital hikes that BACKPACKER'S readers have posted on backpacker.com/hikes using Trimble's technology."
With the AllSport GPS application, BlackBerry smartphone users looking to jumpstart or maintain their fitness routine can track exercise activity by monitoring time, speed, calories burned, and distance traveled during outdoor workouts. Additionally, users may download map images and recommended routes to their phones, view performance statistics, and store workouts to monitor progress or share with friends. The application supports a variety of outdoor activities including walking, running, cycling and mountain biking.
Geocaching is a high-tech treasure hunt that is rapidly gaining widespread adoption worldwide. Geocache Navigator is the only application that brings geocaching capabilities to the mobile phone and provides real time access to geocaching.com, the largest geocache database in the world. Using their GPS phone, geocachers can seek the caches using a uniquely constructed, radar-like interface that guides them toward their destination. Additionally, phone screens provide compass-based navigation, maps, speed, heading, location, distance, cache descriptions logs, hints and other useful information for both the most experienced and novice user.
Trimble Outdoors is a complete outdoor trip planning and navigation solution that allows consumers to review and plan trips online, send routes, maps and waypoints wirelessly to their GPS phone and then use the phone as a full-featured GPS navigator to guide their adventures. The application allows users to get maps of their locations, track routes with a GPS bread-crumb trail, and mark and edit waypoints along the way. The application also features a digital compass displaying the user's coordinates, speed and heading. Users can also leverage the multi-media components of their phones to create photographic, video and audio notes of their trips for sharing online and viewing in Google Earth.
Trimble's GPS applications are immediately available for 30-day trials on the Trimble Outdoors web site.
The trial versions support the BlackBerry 8800, BlackBerry 8820 and BlackBerry Curve 8310 smartphones. Full versions of each product will be available through Handmark later this month for $39.99 each per year or $5.99 each per month.
