The head unit is available as the Toyota Touch and an upgrade (at an undisclosed price) opens up all additional functionalities of the Touch & Go. The Toyota Touch is making its debut on the Verso-S, a compact minivan that is launching now in Europe. It features a 6.1-inch, full colour, touch screen multimedia system, AM/FM radio, a CD/MP3 player, Bluetooth mobile phone connectivity, a USB port for the connection of portable music players, a trip information screen and a rear view camera.
Toyota Touch & Go offers real-time traffic coverage, customisable speed limits and speed camera warnings.
In connecting with a compatible mobile phone via Bluetooth, users will have additional connected services at their fingertip. These will include Google Local Search and addresses sent to the car via Google Maps.
The connectivity with the mobile phone also enables the owner’s phone book to be used as a source of addresses to set as destinations. In addition, owners can manage their SMS messages through Touch & Go; reading messages and replying with customisable templates. The system will also display any contact pictures stored on the mobile phone.
Later in 2011 Toyota will also introduce a Touch & Go Apps facility that will make fuel price, weather and parking space information available. Other App options will be rolled out in the future including 3D map viewing, map updates and software updates as they become available.
