Toyota Selects TeleNav as Brought-In Navigation Supplier with OSM Maps
TeleNav announced last week that Toyota has selected their Scout GPS Link software as a brought-in GPS navigation solution.

TeleNav co-developed the solution with UIEvolution, the supplier of the link software between the head unit and the smartphone for Toyota Entune.

Scout GPS Link allows users easily to transfer the information displayed on their mobile device outside the car to the multimedia display inside their car. The navigation software includes real-time traffic information and hands-free voice commands.

“Scout GPS Link will soon be available for Toyota owners for both iPhone and Android mobile phones as a free download with a complimentary subscription from the Apple App Store and Google Play. Drivers also can use the app connected to the vehicle head unit free of charge,“ the company said.

With this announcement is is clear that Toyota is making its best to keep away from Android Auto and CarPlay. It is also worth noticing that for the first time a leading auto maker is using data from Openstreetmap to power a turn-by-turn GPS navigation system.
