TomTom to Strengthen Local Search: 25 Countries Expected by End of 2012
TomTom today announced the forthcoming availability of its local search engine Tomtom Places in 25 countries by the end of the year.

The service is currently available in 10 countries across Europe but still missing three heavy-weight countries: United Kingdom, Italy and France.

“20 million new Points of Interest have been added to the service in the last 8 months. While there were 5.5 million POIs in October 2011, there are 26 million today,“ said TomTom in a press release today.

Just like a Yellow Pages service, TomTom Places is monetized by premium placement and enriched listing for the venue owner; it costs €99 per year.
