TomTom enters Turkish market
TomTom today announced that it is expanding into Turkey by opening up an office in Istanbul and launching a range of portable navigation devices this summer. The new Turkish organization is headed by country manager Özgür Yiğiter, who joined TomTom in February this year. He previously held different senior marketing and sales positions at Sony.

TomTom ONE Turkey (entry level PND), TomTom XL Turkey and TomTom XL Europe (mid-range PNDs) and the premium TomTom GO 720 Europe will be sold through various distributors and retailers. TomTom will use Tele Atlas map data in Turkey and its Turkish customers will also have access to its Map Share technology.

Over 6 million cars are currently driven in Turkey and the new vehicle market was estimated at over 400.000 passenger cars per year in 2006.
