TomTom today announced a renewal of its map data agreement with TeleNav, the U.S. leader in mobile navigation with more than 30 million users.
Within this new contract TomTom will provide mapping data for Scout, Telenav’s branded mobile navigation offering currently available on the iPhone. In addition, TomTom will remain the provider of map content for Telenav-powered Sprint applications.
TeleNav recently renegotiated their contract with U.S. wireless operator Sprint which bundles navigation with a number of its plans. The amount of the agreement was cut by more than 50 percent (read here). We can roughly estimate that TomTom’s licensing fees have followed the same pace in that particular contract.
