TomTom Home records 2.5 million users
TomTom today announced that TomTom HOME, its “online community”, has hit 2.5 million registered users worldwide. This is an additional 1.5 million users in the last six months. This also shows about 20% penetration among its installed base of over 12 million GPS devices.

TomTom Home, the desktop software that allows the connection of TomTom devices to online services, is becoming increasingly important to the TomTom strategy moving forward. First, additional content – paid-for map updates, voices, safety cameras, etc… – are high margin products which are directly improving the bottom line. Second, this is the gateway to user-generated map updates (with the MapShare technology) which is not only a key differentiator for TomTom products, but also the cornerstone supporting the strategy behind the Tele Atlas acquisition.
