Telmap chooses Inrix as US traffic information provider
Israleli off-board navigation provider Telmap announced today to have chosen Inrix as traffic information provider for the United States. Telmap is the solution behind MapQuest Navigator, a mobile navigation application branded by the leading US mapping portal and available on the Sprint/Nextel network.

A spin-off from Microsoft Research, Inrix offers real-time and predictive traffic information for 94 markets in the U.S. and incident information in over 122 markets. Inrix acquires real-time and historical sensor data from hundreds of public and private sources including anonymous, real-time GPS probe data from more than 625,000 commercial vehicles; toll tag data; and road sensor networks. Additionally, the Inrix Smart Dust Network aggregates real-time incidents and hundreds of market-specific criteria that affect traffic – such as construction and road closures, sporting and entertainment events, school schedules and weather forecasts. Inrix uses sophisticated statistical analysis techniques to aggregate and enhance these traffic information.

“We selected INRIX to deliver a traffic information solution that can provide the broadest market coverage and highest-quality traffic information available on any mobile mapping and navigation application,” said Oren Nissim, CEO of Telmap.
