Telmap Partners with GyPSiiSocial networking meets navigation and local search
Mobile navigation supplier Telmap and location-based social network GyPSii jointly announced today an agreement to develop and introduce advanced location-based social networking as part of Telmap’s Mobile Location Companion.
As part of the cooperation, Telmap will introduce social networking and user-generated content, to the Telmap5 Mobile Location Companion using GyPSii’s Open API, OpenExperience. The two companies want to offer to wireless operators and their subscribers a single app combining key social media, navigation, search, and mapping features. With GyPSii mobile users can indeed access and contribute to location-aware content, share locations, read and post recommendations, videos, pictures, find friends, events, and places, all in one app. The problem is to know if, from a customer standpoint, it makes sense to tweet and update your Facebook status via a navigation app on your phone. The Swiss knife approach has some limitations, especially in an era where dedicated apps seem to be the norm. As the slogan says, “there is AN app for everything”, not ONE app for everything.
