Skyhook Powers Location Tech for Norton Anti-Theft
Hybrifd location provider Skyhook today announced that Norton by Symantec has deployed Skyhook’s technology in its recently announced laptop recovery program, Norton Anti-Theft.
Norton Anti-Theft is a new Web-service that allows consumers to remotely lock, locate and recover a lost or stolen Windows-based laptop, Android smartphone or tablet. Skyhook’s Core Engine location system uses a combination of Wi-Fi, cellular, GPS and sensor readings to produce a fast location in all environments. Skyhook currently fulfills hundreds of millions of location requests every day across more than 100 million handsets, computers, tablets and cameras.
Anti-theft and laptp recovery solutions have become an interesting market for Skyhook. Snuko, Gadget Trak (MacTrak), Orbicule (Undercover), CyberAngel (Wi-Trac) and Awareness Technologies (Laptop Cop) are all using Skyhook.
However, Absolute software, who has been the market leader in this area is using Quova Inc. which resells the Navizon Wireless Locator - a direct competitor to Skyhook Wireless - as an extension to its GeoDirectory Server 6.0. Tuesday, November 29th 2011
