ShopLocal to launch GPS-enabled mobile widget
ShopLocal yesterday announced the launch of ShopLocal Mobile, a GPS-based mobile application that connects US retailers and consumers to the site, based on their current locations.

With consumers can find millions of products and up-to-date weekly sales, deals, and coupons for consumer electronics, apparel, groceries and more. This mobile application extends circular promotions and ads to GPS-enabled cell phones, allowing consumers to access to current promotions available in their local communities whether they are shopping online or in store.

ShopLocal Mobile was developed in partnership with uLocate Communications, and launched on WHERE, its innovative mobile GPS widget platform. WHERE is available on the Sprint wireless network - for $2.99/month, then all widgets are free. The WHERE platform that launched a few months ago now offers more than 25 GPS widgets from local air quality to the nearest Biofuel retail outlet or the local Irish Pub. Several social networking websites with location platforms have also created their own widgets: Twitter, Everytrail and Location Tag.

uLocate closed an investment round of US$11 million in May (read our article here).
