Recon Instruments Get $10m Series A Financing
On the heels of its presence at the CES trade show last week, Recon Instruments, which develops ski Goggles with embedded GPS and micro display, announced it has secured a $10 million Series A investment from a group led by the Canadian venture capital firm Vanedge Capital, with participation from Kopin Corporation, a leading vendor of micro displays.
Recon Instruments has recently launched MOD Live, an Android-based, GPS-enabled micro display that fits in ski Goggles. It offers real-time feedback such as speed, jump analytics, latitude/longitude, altitude, vertical distance travelled, total distance travelled, chrono/stopwatch mode, a run-counter, temperature and time. The system also integrates with Android smartphones via Bluetooth for additional apps and live connectivity giving access to navigation, resort points of interest, caller ID, text messaging, MP3 playlists, buddy tracking, wireless camera sync, and more. the company is soon to introduce a SDK to allow third parties to develop customized software for the Goggles.
