Gimbal is a context aware, proximity platform for brands to engage their customers' mobile devices. The Gimbal platform includes Gimbal proximity beacons and an SDK for iOS and Android equipped with geofencing, interest sensing, in app push notification as well as Gimbal Manager to set specific features and privacy controls.
The Gimbal platform supports iOS and Android; but the new Gimbal proximity beacons support only iOS today with planned support for Android.
The two beacon released are the Series 20 (95mm x 102mm x 24mm) and the Series 10 (28mm x 40mm x 5.6mm). Series 20 uses a standard CR2032 replaceable battery and ships with the battery tab installed and ready to activate. The battery life under typical conditions is about 3 months when transmitting at almost twice per second.
“Depending on volume, Series 10 beacons are available for as little as $5 each and Series 20 beacons are available for as little as $10 each,“ said Qualcomm.
Qualcomm Retail Solutions has a whitepaper about the use of this kind of proximity beacons. Download it here.
