Pioneer Organizes Hackathon to Stimulate Developers for its AppRadio System
Pioneer Electronics (USA) yesterday announced it will host a developer contest at the SEMA Show (Specialty Equipment Manufacturers Association) in Las Vegas, on October 30- November 2, to promote the development of apps for its AppRadio in-car system.

AppRadio is a car stereo that replicates compatible iPhone and Android apps on its 7-inch touchscreen.

Pioneer is offering a prize pool of more than $50,000 in cash and prizes that will be awarded to the best apps developed in three categories:
- Voice Interface Social Networking Automotive App – Concept for safe in-vehicle use of Social Networking Services (SNS) through a voice recognition and text-to-speech interface.
- Location-Based Services App – Concept for geo-fenced or geo-tagged automotive related services.
- SEMA Member automotive accessory application – Concept that incorporates one or more SEMA Show 2012 exhibitor’s technology, products or services.

The AppRadio platform is currently compatible with 25 iPhone and 15 Android Apps in the United States.
