Pelago hires advertising Exec

Whrrl, the location-aware social discovery service from Pelago, Inc., has announced last week the appointment of John Kim as Vice President, Advertising Products. Kim will be charged with managing the monetization strategy of Whrrl’s for retailers, local advertisers and other business partners.

Most recently, Kim was Vice President of Product Management and Marketing for Medio (2007-2008), a mobile search and advertising company. Before Medio, Kim was the Senior Director of Strategic and Product Marketing at Yahoo! where he spent 6 years. He originally joined Yahoo! when the company acquired Overture Services, where he was Director of Marketing.

Prior to Overture, Kim worked as a strategy consultant at Accenture (2001-2003), where he advised executives at high-tech, wireless and Internet companies on new product development processes, potential new ventures and growth strategies. Kim also served as a White House appointee, advising the U.S. President on increasing the level of Asian American and Pacific Islander small-business contribution to the national economy (2004-2007).

Kim received a BA in economics from University of California Santa Barbara and an MBA from the University of Chicago (1999).
