Nuance Launches GPS-Based Voice Search Solution for BlackBerry
Nuance Communications, today announced that Nuance Voice Control, a one-click mobile search and messaging service powered by speech technology, is now integrated with the built-in GPS of the BlackBerry 8800 series smartphones.

Nuance Voice Control enhances the BlackBerry 8800 user experience for local mobile search and driving directions. A user can press a key on the BlackBerry and say “Find Business Pizza near me” and receives a complete list of nearby pizza restaurants displayed on the phone screen, including the address, phone number and map links. To get driving directions the same user can say “Get directions from here to 1500 Broadway, New York, NY,” and receives door-to-door directions from his current location on the screen of its Blackberry.

“Today this application is only available in the US, but we are looking at expanding this service to other geographies” said Vanessa Richter, a spokesperson for Nuance.

Previous versions of Nuance Voice Control ranked as the best selling BlackBerry title based on units sold from all Handango storefronts for the first quarter of 2007. This application is the result of the acquisition of the US-based company MobileVoiceControl by Nuance in December 2006.
