Following on the partnership between Nokia and Groupon announced at the Mobile World Congress in Barcelona earlier this year, Nokia Maps is now embedding Groupon Now (short time nearby offerings) in an update of its software.
“When looking for something on Nokia Maps, you will be shown relevant deals among the usual search results clearly marked with the green G of Groupon,“ wrote Nokia Location & Commerce blogger Pino Bonetti. “All deals on Nokia Maps come with an exhaustive description and when you have selected one, you will be redirected to the Groupon mobile site.“
The deals are limited to 34 cities in the United States, the current footprint of Groupon Now.

When we discussed with Nokia at the Mobile World Congress why they chose to partner with only one deal providers instead of aggregating all of them, we were explained that Nokia preferred to work with Groupon only in order to have a deep partnership (read here).
Now if we look at this announcement from Nokia we don't see much difference with any other partner using a Groupon API. The deals ends up on the mobile site of Groupon which, frankly, does not provide the best experience from a Nokia Maps user perspective. Shall we expect more from this partnership? Wait and see.
