Less than six months after the departure of Ralf Hug (now at Airbiquity) who was vice president marketing, Navigon is now replacing Andreas Hecht at the top position. Andreas Hecht came from NAVTEQ when Navigon acquired the NAVTEQ automotive business in December 2006; he “will remain as a consultant with the company”, wrote a Navigon spokesperson to GPS Business News.
Michael Roach will lead all marketing and sales functions for the Americas and he will be based in Cahicago. He will report directly to Egon Minar, chief sales officer at NAVIGON AG (Germany). Prior to LG Electronics (2005-2008), Roach served as director of U.S. consumer sales at ViewSonic Americas for three years and in various marketing and sales roles at Sony Corporation of America for 13 years.
Navigon has been performing well in the United States in terms of market share since its launch one year ago, replacing Mio as the Fourth PND manufacturer according to NPD Group data; whether this market share expansion is sustainable is however unknown at this stage.
