Mio shows off Android-based Mobile Internet Navigation Device
Yesterday at the WiMAX Forum's Broadband Taiwan 2009 event in Taipei, MiTAC demonstrated a Mio branded Mobile Internet Navigation Device (MIND). The device - called MiBuddy - is both a Personal navigation Device and a Mobile Internet tablet based on the Android operating system and boasting a 4.3-inch screen and a keyboard. The device uses a WiMAX chipset from Altair Semiconductor.
At this stage it is unknown if - and when - this device would be available in the United States. This will be the first Android-based device for Mio, a departure from Windows CE, the operating system used by all PNDs from the company. Wednesday October 28, 2009
