MapmyIndia releases new maps; covers 25% road network
Digital mapping and GPS navigation provider MapmyIndia launched today a new version of its maps that is said to cover 90% of India’s population through 401 cities, 837,695 kms of roads, 411,625 town and villages. This database encompasses 1 million POIs.

The National Highway Authority of India estimates the length of the Indian road network to 3.3 million kms; the MapmyIndia dataset is covering around 25% of this road network today. Competitors such as NAVTEQ or Tele Atlas have not reached this stage yet.

“While the 401 cities maps are available on MapmyIndia Navigators, we have also updated them on, making them accessible free of cost”, said Rakesh Verma, founder and managing director of the company. “With a significant population in urban India comprising young workers from all over India, Version 3.0 will help them navigate their way in cities while also connecting them to their roots.”

This new map dataset is available immediately in purchasing a PND or navigation software from MapmyIndia as well as to third parties.
