This week Magellan announced the release of three new PNDs: RoadMate 1470 ($299), RoadMate 1440 ($249) and RoadMate 1340 ($179). These are the first products launched since the acquisition of the company by MiTAC earlier this year.

There is no revolution in these new devices, rather some catch up with the competition, with features such as “Highway Lane Assist”, to help the driver in complex junctions on motorways and “Highway Exit Points of Interest”, that let the user find gas stations, restaurants and hotels near upcoming exits.

All these units also feature AAA TourBook listings (which was previously available only in the higher-end Maestro series) and member Roadside Assistance menu. These devices are also shipping with spoken street names (text-to-speech technology).
