Tough market conditions for Magellan
According to NPD data cited by TomTom and Garmin, the two U.S. market leaders had a combined 90 percent market share in the first quarter of 2012 (24 percent for TomTom and 66 percent for Garmin), leaving a very narrow opportunity to other market contenders such as Magellan.
As the PND market continues to decline in the U.S. and in Western Europe, Mitac, which owns Navman and Mio brands in Europe and Magellan in North America, is more than ever facing sales drop.
