Magellan Switches to Tele Atlas

Magellan Switches to Tele Atlas
TomTom today announced that its map licensing division Tele Atlas has extended its contract with Taiwanese manufacturer MiTAC to include Magellan branded products.

This announcement was however not a complete surprise as the rumor was growing since the latest map update for Magellan devices which was with Tele Atlas map data, according to specialized web forums.

Until now Magellan was – after Garmin – one of the largest PND makers supplied by NAVTEQ.

Maarten van Gool, Managing Director of Tele Atlas, comments: “We are pleased to strengthen our global relationship with MiTAC International Corporation and to enable Magellan, Mio and Navman brands to deliver innovative technologies across all regions. With this agreement, Tele Atlas maps and content will power the PND’s of the leading players in the world and will bring mobility, navigation and quality to an ever-growing audience.”

Interestingly the whole press release sent by TomTom was Tele Atlas “branded” and TomTom barely mentioned.
