In-door Positioning Start-up Insiteo Raised 3.5m
Last week in-door positioning start-up Insiteo announced a second round of funding of €3.5 million led by VC firms Innovacom (the VC arm of France Telecom) and Germany-based Creathor Venture. The first round of funding was completed one year ago with Emertec and a small group of private investors (read here).

Insiteo’s technology is an infrastructure-based solution that combines A-GPS, WiFi, Bluetooth, and, in some cases, FM radio to provide indoor, sub three meter positioning. The core of the Insiteo business is in selling and maintaining GPS pseudolytes that, installed in large convention center, recreate GPS signals in-door.

Such system was used during the recent Paris Motor Show where an application for Android smartphone was positioning the visitor and offering geo-located show information as well as routing to booths of the car brands. Reed Expo, the world's leading events organizer is among the Insiteo customers.

Due to its closed architecture, the iPhone is unfortunately not supporting the system at this stage.

Watch here a video interview with Insiteo’s CEO Arnaud Masson (January 2010).
