Google Transit Data: 1m Stops in Nearly 500 Cities
Last week Google announced to have reached coverage for 1 million stops in almost 500 cities worldwide for its transit information service on Google Maps.

The Mountain View company also updated its Google Maps for Android app (version 6.10) to make transit information easier to use on the map.

Now users can select a specific mode of public transportation (train, bus, tram or subway) to display on the mobile map, hiding the other modes. This is useful in places where a high concentration of public transports hinder the visibility.

Google also updated the layout of station pages that can be opened by tapping on the name of the station on the map. This new format offers departure times, lines serving the station and the distance to nearby stations.

Google is one of the world’s leader in the aggregation of transit data, followed closely by Nokia Location & Commerce (NAVTEQ) which currently has data for around 450 cities worldwide.
