Last week Google announced the launch of “Google Maps Coordinate“, a fleet/workforce management tool for businesses.
The system tracks in real-time the location of employees with mobile devices and using the tool the dispatcher can assign jobs to the nearest employee. Workers can see a list of their jobs and check in to show that they have started.
One of the particularities of the system is that it can provide indoor geo-location accuracy (using Wi-Fi) if the customer uploads their own floor plans. The business can also create custom points of interest (POIs) to pinpoint special locations to workers in the field.
The software solution can also be used to display job and location history to improve the efficiency of the mobile workforce over time.
In adidtion to the desktop and mobile software, Google created a special API that allows to integrate “Coordinate“ into other IT systems. The Coordinate API exposes job creation, listing, and update functionality through a RESTful web service.
“Google Maps Coordinate has an introductory price of $15 per user per month until September 1, 2012,“ indicates Google on its website. It does seem to be only available in the United States at this stage.
