Galileo Agency Inaugurates New Seat, to Endorse New Responsibilities
The European GNSS Agency (GSA) officially opened its new headquarters in Prague last week after its staff relocated from Brussels during the summer. This new location is symbolically expressing its growing operational responsibilities

The GSA currently assumes two main tasks for the implementation of the Galileo GNSS constellation: the security (security accreditation of satellites, launchers, sites etc. and the operation of the Galileo Security Monitoring Centre) and the market development for the European satellite navigation systems: EGNOS today and Galileo tomorrow.

The role of the GSA is expected to be gradually extended as the European Commission will be transferring to the agency the operational responsibilities for the European GNSS programmes before the end of the decade. This process will start with EGNOS in 2014.

As a direct consequence the staff of the GSA is expected to grow from 60 people today to more than 180 in 2020.

Galileo Program
After a successful first launch of two satellites on 21 October 2011, the "In-Orbit Validation" phase will be accomplished with a second launch of two satellites on 10 October 2012.

From 2013 on, the deployment of the satellite infrastructure will continue faster, with several launches per year until the full constellation of 30 satellites (24 operational plus six in-orbit spares) is reached before the end of the decade.
