According to Nielsen, the social discovery start-up had 1.98 billion minutes consumed by users on its apps in July 2012, up 154% versus the previous year. It makes the app the third most used in the United States in the social category after Facebok and Twitter and before Pinterest and Google Latitude.
Despite what has been called the “check-in fatigue,“ it seems Foursquare continues to have some traction. It officially claims a total of 25 million app downloads which is obviously not limited to the United States. The service has enjoyed some success in Asia, Western Europe and has some spots in the rest of the world - like for example Turkey - where its penetration is said to be impressive.
