ESCORT, one of the North American leading vendors of radar detectors has unveiled this week a new version of its mobile app that allow to share the location of police with or without a - harware - radar detector.
The free app is available to everybody and the paid version (in-app purchase), costs $4.99 per month or $49.99 per year.
There are actually three ways to participate in the community: through the free app in getting updates from other users of the free app; through the app plus the subscription - where you receive alerts from free and paid users having a radar detector connected to the app - and through the app connected to an Escort radar and laser detector in your car.
These different level of use are a clever way to upsell consumers to a paid service and ultimately to hardware, the core business model of radar detector vendors in the United States.
