Coyote Prepares Driver Drowsiness Detection System

Coyote Prepares Driver Drowsiness Detection System
French Speedcam warning vendor Coyote System announced today the upcoming availability of a device that detects driver drowsiness.

The new Coyote product will record four key elements to detect drowsiness: speed and directon changes, time of the day and duration of the trip. Based on these elements the system will establish a driver profile and once a risk of drowsiness is detected the device will ask a question to the driver to confirm the risk and indicate the next possible stop or exit on the road or motorway.

Based on the positive or negative answers from the driver, the system will continuously refine and improve its profile.

According to research performed by the French “Institut d’Etude des Accidents de la route,“ last year 18 percent of road accidents resulting in deaths were due to drowsiness in France.

This predictive model built by Coyote will be even improved by a partnership recently signed between the device maker and a French motorway operator, Société des Autoroutes Paris-Rhin-Rhône. The two organization will work together on programmes to improve driver's safety.

Outside of the immediate benefit for drivers, Coyote will also use this drowsiness detection tool to build a dataset that will be feeding a large scale behavioural study on drowsiness.
