China: AutoNavi Free Mapping App Tops 40m Users, Grows 4m/Month
Chinese map maker and LBS provider AutoNavi today announced that their mobile mapping application AMAP is now totalling 40 million users and growing at a fast pace of 4 million additional users per month, up from 26 million users at the end of the third quarter of 2011.

AutoNavi also said that “the average number of daily active users this past week has increased over 50% from last year's October Golden Week holiday.“

The latest version of AMAP offers free traffic reports.

In anticipation of the peak travel season of the Chinese New Year, AutoNavi also updated its paid turn-by-turn iPhone navigation application, HD AutoNavi Navigation v6.7.

The new features of this navigation app include:
- City-specific functions, giving users the option of selecting which cities' map data they wish to download, thereby reducing data storage use and increasing download speeds;

- Cloud-based services, allowing users to share customized routes with friends through AutoNavi's server;

- Voice command options, providing users with hands-free search capability.
