A few days ago Research In Motion announced an upgrade to its mobile map client for its Blackberry devices with the addition of 34 new countries in South America, Africa and APAC, including Australia, Brazil, Argentina, Uruguay, New Zealand, The Philippines and Taiwan.

In addition to this extended coverage, RIM optimized the visual appearance of the maps with a new rendering engine and new color scheme. New POI databases for hospitals, universities/colleges, police stations, train/subway stations, shopping centers, parking, parks and airports were also added.
