Blackberry Fund made investment in LBS companies

The BlackBerry Partners Fund LP, a $150 million venture capital fund formed last May to focus on applications and services for the BlackBerry® and other mobile platforms, said yesterday it has made its first investments in three start-up companies: Buzzd, Digby and WorldMate.

Buzzd, a location-sensitive city guide and social network for mobile devices, has raised $3.2 million in a Series A Preferred Stock financing with BlackBerry Partners Fund, Greycroft Partners, Monitor Ventures and Qualcomm Ventures. Buzzd allows consumers to get up-to-the minute information on what's happening at any venue right now, rate events and connect with friends and other people in the area. Buzzd is located in New York City.

Digby, a mobile commerce service provider, has raised $5.5 million Series B Preferred Stock with the BlackBerry Partners Fund and existing shareholders. The Company’s service is a mobile commerce software platform that enables consumers to purchase physical goods and services from their mobile device and provides merchants with a turn-key infrastructure for mcommerce deployment. Digby customers include retailers such as Godiva and 800-Flowers and integrates location-based services into its mobile application available for Blackberry, Windows Mobile, iPhone and Android. Digby is headquartered in Austin, Texas.

WorldMate, a developer of mobile travel applications, has raised $8 million in a Series C Preferred Stock financing with BlackBerry Partners Fund, Motorola Ventures and AMC Communications. WorldMate Live, tracks every trip and sends real-time “push” alerts about itinerary updates and changes, including flight delays and cancellations. WorldMate products also feature travel resources, such as flight schedules, weather forecasts, travel directories, maps, world clocks, a currency converter and more. Worldmate serves over one million frequent flyers and road warriors around the world and is headquartered in Lod, Israel.
