Benoît Simeray Rejoined TomTom as SVP Sport
Former TomTom executive Benoît Simeray rejoined the company last month to head the sport business (GPS sport watches co-developed with Nike) of the Dutch GPS manufacturer as senior vice president.
Simeray had been working for TomTom between 2003 and 2010 in several positions, first as senior vice president sales Southern Europe, then as general manager Latin America, SVP geographical expansion and finally as SVP mobile, in charge of TomTom's iPhone product. During the 18 months he spent out of TomTom Simeray was first on a sabbatical then consulting for a couple of start-up companies.
Fast growing consumer electronics category
GPS-enabled sport monitoring devices are a fast growing category. In 2010 Garmin fitness division generated $240 million in revenue. In the TomTom-Nike agreement the Dutch company is particularly responsible for selling the product through consumer electronics stores, a field where Simeray spent most of his career.
