Austrian augmented reality start-up Wikitude this week announced the availability of its Augmented Reality (AR) engine for the mobile web.
Until now augmented reality experiences on smartphones have been relying on special applications such as Wikitude, Layar, Metaio and a few others.
With this new software development kit (SDK) working for iOS and Android, Wikitude will allow augmented reality animations to bedisplayed inside a web page build with ordinary web technologies such as HTML5, CSS3, and Javascript. (Precision: the iPhone browser does give access to the camera yet, so this is only working with Android phones at this stage)
