At Last: TomTom Coming to Android in October
On the eve of the IFA trade show opening in Berlin, TomTom today announced its turn-by-turn navigation application on the Android operating system. The application is set for release in October 2012, pricing has not been announced yet.

This announcement follows the recent release of the TomTom Hands-free Car Kit that works with iPhone and Android devices (read here).

It took several years for TomTom to come to the Android platform. The reason is likely to be that the Dutch GPS maker, who used to sell digital maps to Google, was contractually forbidden to launch their navigation product on the platform.

TomTom is already familiar with Android as the Renault R-Link head unit (due this Fall on the Clio and Zoe cars) is based on that operating system.
