Appello signs up Telenor Sweden for mobile navigation
Gothenburg, Sweden-based Appello Systems will be providing its navigation system to Swedish operator Telenor said the company today.

”Scandinavia is clearly an important market for us and we are enthusiastic about this partnership and the opportunity to deliver our platform to Telenor,” said Leif Sundström, Vice President and General Sales Manager at Appello.

“Looking at the bigger picture, we now see a clear trend that many mobile operators are taking control and establishing a strategic position on the navigation market. The rather diverse range of products that comes with the different manufacturer’s GPS devices is reducing the control and revenue potential for the mobile operators. Appello’s offer and indirect business model help the operators create attractive services on their own terms.” he added.

Telenor Navigation offers mobile mapping, search and navigation and is fully integrated in the Telenor mobile service portfolio. The application will also be pre-installed on several of Telenor’s upcoming GPS enabled mobile phones. Telenor is the third largest wireless operator in Sweden with an estimated 18% market share and 1.8 million subscribers.

Specializing in white-labeled off-board navigation applications, Appello has met a real success across Europe with a small team of less than 25 people. On the top of the newly announced Telenor Sweden, Appello also works for seven other wireless operators: KPN (Netherlands), SFR (France), Mobilkom Austria, BT (UK) and TeliaSonera (in Denmark, Finland and Sweden).
