ALK Launched $4.99 US Nav App on Android, Opens New Countries
Last week ALK Technologies released on the Android Market its turn-by-turn navigation software CoPilot Live USA at the new price of $4.99 for unlimited use.

This new price is a clear indicator of the growing price war that started on this OS platform after happening on the iTunes store. The war involves most of the usual suspects of mobile navigation: namely ALK, NDrive, Navigon, and a few others.

In complement of the navigation software, ALK has a real-time traffic service in the United States which is available as an option for $9.99 per year.

CoPilot Live North America, which includes both the U.S. and Canada maps, continues to be available from Android Market and iTunes App Store for $19.99.

South East Asia, Midle East, Russia, Turkey and Brazil

Besides this U.S. price, ALK also introduced this week new countries and regions, including: Malaysia, Singapore, Taiwan, Philippines, Thailand, UAE, Saudi Arabia, Bahrain, Qatar, Oman, Kuwait, Egypt, Brazil, Russia and Turkey

“A combination of economic growth and tourism is driving us to broaden the geographic reach of CoPilot Live,” said Michael Kornhauser, Managing Director of the CoPilot Live Division at ALK.

South East Asia, Turkey, Russia, Brazil and Middle East are now available from the Windows Mobile marketplace and Android Market. The pricing for single region Asia countries are 39.99€ and full South East Asia is at 62.99€. Brazil, Russia and Turkey are available for 29.99€ each and all Middle East at 79.99€. These regions will be shortly available on iPhone too. The map data is from NAVTEQ with the exception of Middle East which is coming from Tele Atlas.
